Daily Drinking - Episode 4
Kombucha for allergy sufferers! NA beers and a real beer! A peach forward smoothie!
Shiner’s new Rodeo line of NA (Non-Alcoholic) beers now has a mix-six pack. I picked up one of these over the weekend and tried out two of their NA lineup. First up was their Red Amber. As you can see it poured very nicely, good foam, color is nice rich amber. Flavor was solid and the drink was overall refreshing. A nice option for the hot summer we often experience in Texas. I do plan to have more of this one.
But to make the experiment more meaningful I also had this (512) Amber Altbier style ale from (512) Brewing Company in Austin, Texas. Yeah, I can tell the difference between a 6.4% ABV beer and 0.5% beer (Shiner Rodeo Red Amber). What’s the difference you say? Well, the obvious difference is the alcohol content, but also the (512) Amber has a maltier taste, something I really enjoy with Amber beers. Just like the Shiner Rodeo version of an Amber I do plan to have a few more of the (512) Amber as they are both good and I like the option of more alcohol/calories versus less alcohol/calories.
The Shiner Rodeo mix/six-pack has a Citrus Wit and a Lager (I’ll post about this one later this week) in addition to the Red Amber. The Rodeo Citrus Wit is a very good wit, which makes it an excellent summer beer. I will be drinking more of this crisp, refreshing NA beer throughout the summer and into the still hot days of fall.
In the last episode of Daily Drinking I wrote about a Strawberry-Peach-Banana smoothie. Today I am writing about a Peach-Banana-Strawberry smoothie. What’s the difference you ask? Well, the above smoothie was very peach forward as we had more peaches than strawberries and banana content. Subtly different, but I liked this one. We also saved back some peach essence that we drizzled over HEB Creamy Sensations Frozen Vanilla Yogurt with some pecans as our evening dessert.
I’m thinking how I might be able to use fruit essence in different ways. The Mustang Grapes and Texas Persimmons on our lot are looking good this year thanks to the rain we’ve had so I have some news things to experiment with later this year.
Last up for this episode: Element Kombucha from San Antonio Ginger Nettle Kombucha - light, refreshing along with the health benefits of stinger nettles for an allergy sufferer like me. Really doesn’t get much better than this.
And, as per the usual, the last question of the day is “What are you drinking?”
