Gus Tails
Gus the gentleman and Dyna the feral cat share a bed. Gus doesn't seem to be pleased.
Welcome to the seventh episode of Gus Tails where we look back at the life of Gus the Basset Hound. Last week in Episode 6 I presented visual evidence that when food is involved Gus can move at a speed faster than the camera can track.
Most days Dyna, the feral cat who adopted us, ignored all of us, including Gus. On occasion, Dyna blessed us with her attention and presence. On a day in August 2011, Dyna deigned to nap with Gus.
As we can see in the above photo, Dyna is kneading a corner of Gus’ bed to her satisfaction while a young Gus is trying to figure out what is going on. Gus never met an animal or person that he did not consider his friend, but at the same time he is confused. This was Gus’ bed and Gus being a Basset Hound was vertically challenged while Dyna, being a cat and not vertically challenged, had access to so much more of the house than Gus could reach.
A few minutes later, Gus seems resigned to his fate. After all, a Basset Hound needs his naps.
And just a few minutes later, Gus has fallen asleep. Dyna is almost asleep, but still in that cat position of nearly asleep yet seemingly fully alert.
Gus is fully asleep and Dyna wonders why I am so interested in this whole series of events. For the next several minutes Dyna continued to stare at me. Dyna liked her privacy and never enjoyed having her photo taken.
And, finally Dyna has turned her back on me. A feral cat and her Basset Hound, as all of us who have lived with cats know cats believe they own everything they see, nap together.
Next week in Episode 8 of Gus Tails we will see a resting and stoic Gus in the shadows.
