On Day 2 of Advent I had a tasty brew from the oldest craft brewery in Texas.
You can always get to my post for the previous day of Advent and the post for the next day through the links in every post.
On day 3 of Advent I had a Dunkles Hefe Weizen from the Tucher Brewery, the oldest wheat brewery in Nuremburg, Germany. Wheat beers were my gateway beer when I first started drinking craft beer in the mid 2000’s. While wheat beers are not the most popular style of craft beer, I find them to be a good test. If a brewery can brew a good wheat beer I generally find I like a lot of their other styles. Tuche brews five different wheat beers. Here’s what a description of Dunkles Hefe Weizen from the Tuche website:
Ein dunkles Weizen für Kenner: röstaromatisch und tiefdunkel. Unsere hauseigene Hefe und die Kraft dunkel gerösteter Malze sorgen dabei für den aromatischen Charakter mit zugleich fruchtiger Note.
For those of you who aren’t fluent in German here’s an English translation:
A dark wheat beer for connoisseurs: roasted aromatic and deep dark. Our in-house yeast and the power of dark roasted malts provide the aromatic character with a fruity note at the same time.
And, here’s where I fail in talking/writing about craft beers. I’m not good at the details of the ingredients, aroma and taste… Here’s what I can say about Dunkles Hefe Weizen: excellent taste, good on its own and with food. I wish I had more of this chilling in the refrigerator.
I did drink this a little earlier in the day than yesterday, but I can do better.
Looking forward to day 4: a massive sense of déjà vu.
