Gus Tails - Episode 11

300,000 miles, Gus napping, Gus holding court in the living room, tree ducks on the fence and Gus and Willow the pit bull playing.

Welcome to the 11th episode of Gus Tails where we look back at the life of Gus the Basset Hound. Last week in Episode 10 we have photos of Gus in springtime, Gus napping, Bob the visiting Basset, Gus and Dyna taking turns napping, and Louise naps with her Gus pillow.

This has nothing to do with Gus but is a testament to Toyota vehicles. This is the odometer of our Toyota Rav4 which we had from 1996 to 2012. By the time I sold it had over 360,000 miles on the original engine. My 2012 Toyota Tacoma has over 210,000 miles and since I drive much less than I used to (from 1999 to 2020 I averaged driving 20,000 to 25,000 miles a year - I now drive less than 6,000 miles a year thanks to 100% remote work) it will take a long time to get to 300,000 miles on my Tacoma.

And now back to the real star of the show: Gus.

I think this photo was taken at the end of a long, arduous day, but it might have been taken shortly after Gus woke up in the morning. Gus was consistent in his napping. He believed in frequent naps and knew the importance of the pre-nap nap.

Gus speaking his mind on the topics of the day. Notice his newspaper laying on the floor. Gus always spoke his opinions, sometimes loudly.

After speaking his mind, Gus slept peacefully.

Gus. holding true to schedule, was committed to the very important post-nap recovery nap.

Two tree ducks, also known as Whistling Ducks, standing on our backyard fence in West Columbia. They are interesting creatures and would usually be high up in the branches of the pecan and oak trees. One would hear them first, then see their webbed feet in the trees.

To wrap up this episode of Gus Tails, Gus and Willow the Pit Bull have a rambunctious wrestling match. Willow, the dog friend of a good friend of Vanessas’s, visited us often and Gus always enjoyed her visits.
